The castle was built in 1943 to accommodate high-ranking members of the German occupying forces in the Balkans, namely General Neuhausen and his family, although according to some rumours it was built for Hermann Göring.
The castle is anachronistic in comparison with the architectural style of its time, although it was essentially built as a Classicist castle bringing together all the relevant features, such as luxurious materials (pink marble) and first-class oak joinery. There are a few auxiliary buildings on the estate, and the entire complex is fenced. The castle is protected as cultural heritage.
