The foundation stone of this church was laid on 3 October 1842 on the initiative of Josip Cekonjic, and the church was dedicated in 1844, when the bell and the organ were heard for the first time. The renovation works began in 2007.
There is only one Catholic church in Nova Crnja. During the renovation the roof and the floor were replaced, and the external and internal walls were also renovated. The main sponsors of the works were the Provincial Investment Fund, the Diocese of Zrenjanin, the fund "Kirche in Not" from Germany and individual donors.
