St. Wendelin Roman Catholic Church

The first Roman Catholic place of worship dates from 1766 and was built at the time when the Swabian colonists settled in the localities of Hatzfeld and Landestreu. In 1876 it was enlarged and fully redecorated. In 1911 the church tower was raised from 39 m to 53.5 m, and it has remained the tallest building in the town to this day. Inside, the main altar is dominated by an oil painting on canvas (300 × 180) made in 1877, a reproduction of Raphael's "Sistine Madonna", dedicated to St. Wendelin, the patron of the church. The original painting (by the painter Pállik Béla, of Budapest) is in Dresden, Germany.
