The idea of building a church in Čestereg dates back to 1990, and work on the foundations began in June 2007. Bishop Nikanor of Banat consecrated the foundations of the church, dedicated to the Holy Prophet Elijah, on 2 August 2007. The church is designed in the Serbian-Byzantine style, with a dome in front of the central part of the nave and a tower above the narthex. The side apses and the altar form a trefoil.
