DeTour 6: EuroVelo Bridge
The route is intended equally for nature lovers and for those interested in cultural and historical sights. It links EuroVelo 13 (the Iron Curtain Trail) with EuroVelo 11 (the East Europe Route) and is an ideal DeTour for rounding off a visit to the region. Part of the route follows regional roads M7 (Srpska Crnja – Žitište) and M13 (Stajićevo – Trofej); the asphalt is of good quality and the roads are signposted, but extra care is needed. From Žitište to Klek the route uses a two-way cycle path that follows the Bega Canal for about 6 km. From the edge of Zrenjanin to the city centre, where it meets EuroVelo 11, the route runs mainly along city streets, with only a few cycle paths. The highlight of the route is the Carska Bara Special Nature Reserve, best known for the richness of its flora and fauna, and especially for its birdlife, with more than 200 species.
