Timișoara Brewery

Considered the first brewery in Romania, the brewery in Timișoara was built in 1718 on the direct order of Prince Eugene of Savoy. The reasons behind his idea were the needs of the Austrian troops and the need to supply the city with beer, as there was little drinking water. Most of the building was destroyed in the fire of 1890, but it was rebuilt to the highest standards of the time and became one of the most modern breweries in Europe. Between 1900 and 1920, investment in the brewery pursued two projects: increasing beer production to 100,000 hl a year and improving its quality. The beer produced there became more and more popular.

Even though the brewery has been operating for some 300 years in the same building and has been modernised several times, it remains a traditional building combined with modern technology; its 18th-century architecture is still preserved.
